My tribute to Steve Jobs on The Guardian
Yesterday The Guardian asked readers to send tributes to Steve Jobs: “Dear Steve: your products changed my life.” Mine has been published today. Here’s a screen grab and what I wrote below:
“I have never used a PC throughout my entire professional life. Only Apple Macs. I am trained as a graphic designer and my first ever Mac to work with was Apple II, and yes I got to work with an ancient first Apple too at a small advertising studio. It was this tiny squarish box with square screen. It was so slow. I’d say I’ve gone through many versions of Apple Macs like I’ve gone through my boyfriends - but the Macs are far more satisfying and pleasant to be with. I don’t miss PC - or working with any computers that is not white in colour. Perhaps the most important relationship I have with an Apple product was just after my brother died of cancer. My good friend, who was also a designer from California, flew over to London to visit. She gave me a shiny white iPod Nano to cheer me up. Today I still listen to it while cycling. I am forever grateful to Steve Jobs for that.”
